Szczerski presented the invitation also in the name of the President of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović. Following talks in the White House, the minister explained that the leaders of Poland and Croatia wish for President Trump to visit Poland during the planned Three Seas summit in July.
"The invitation was accepted and now we will wait for the response of President Trump as to his calendar," said Szczerski
Krzysztof Szczerski, a senior adviser to Polish President Andrzej Duda, is on a visit to the US, where he met Trump’s National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn, Under Secretary of State Tom Shannon and Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs John Heffern, as well as with American journalists and representatives of leading think tanks.
The focus of the over one hour long discussion between Krzysztof Szczerski and Michael Flynn was US-Poland relations in the fields of defense, economic cooperation, and the security situation in the region, especially in the context of the situation in Ukraine.
Minister Szczerski presented the Polish position regarding sanction against Russia. “I emphasized, that the sanction against Russia are not a retaliatory mechanism, but rather a legal one” noted Minister Szczerski.
Asked about President Trump’s promise to assist Poland in recovering the Tupolev wreckage as presented to American Polonia last fall, Minister Szczerski explained, “the topic of the Smolensk Catastrophe was discussed,” adding that this issue is hindering a return to a policy of mutual trust (with Moscow)”.
General Flynn convinced me, that Polish-American relations with the new US administration will be very intense, and that a great field of opportunity exist for mutual Polish-American interest.(…) This is an administration, which will be led by the interests of Americans; we are a country which pursue Polish interests. After the hour long discussion with General Flynn, I can assure, that the interest of the United States and Poland in many instances overlap - noted Krzysztof Szczerski.
According to Szczerski, Gen. Flynn told him that the presence of US troops in Poland will be a stable element of Polish-American relations and that NATO is the foundation of "security architecture" for the US.
The Secretary of State in the Presidential Chancellery, during talks Thursday in Washington, DC received assurances from representatives of the new US administration, that US policy towards Poland will not be the result of US policy towards Russia. "There are no plans to review the decisions of the NATO summit in Warsaw” Szczerski noted.
I can say today, that US-Poland relations with the new administration are very advanced. During the course of discussions with journalists Minister Szczerski stated that he is very satisfied with his meetings.
