“Our meeting clearly shows that together as the Visegrad Group we want to be more active within major international organizations. The Slovak presidency of the V4 has put forward proposals on how to coordinate our joint initiatives,” Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said after a meeting with his Visegrad Group (V4) counterparts, organized in New York on the sidelines of the general debate of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Called on the initiative of Slovakia, which currently holds the V4 presidency, the meeting looked at the calendar and priorities of the Slovak V4 presidency, key items on the agenda of the 73rd UNGA session, and Slovakia’s preparations for its chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Moreover, the Polish foreign policy chief participated in an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, who discussed the ongoing Syrian conflict and developments in Libya. “The current situation in Libya poses difficulties and threats to the EU. These include the influx of illegal migrants and a potentially destabilizing intervention by other international players,” observed Minister Czaputowicz. “Poland is fully behind international efforts – spearheaded by the UN – to restore peace and stability in Libya,” added Poland’s top diplomat.

On Tuesday, Minister Jacek Czaputowicz accompanied Polish President Andrzej Duda during the opening of the general debate of the 73rd session of UNGA. In addition, the foreign minister met with his counterparts from Moldova and the United Arab Emirates, as well as with Virginia Gamba, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict. The second day of Minister Czaputowicz’s visit to New York was also an opportunity to hold multilateral meetings, including a reception hosted by the American side to mark US presidency of the UN Security Council, and a transatlantic dinner at the level of NATO foreign ministers.

On Monday, ending the first day of his US trip, Minister Czaputowicz attended a reception at the Polish Consulate General in New York, which was organized to celebrate the centenary of Poland’s regained independence.
